More than an exhibit of quilts, this event is a true celebration involving the entire country town of Algood, TN. You will see banners and flags directing you to the things to see and do. But start your outing by going to the Trinity Assembly on Main Street to purchase your ticket and register. Tickets  are $6.00. Go to the Quilt Walk & Quilt Guilds page to see more information about each location where quilts will be displayed. Click for group information.
A major feature of the 21st Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival, September 18 and 19, in Algood will be a special exhibit of 52 quilts from 54 quilt artists in 30 states plus one artist from New Zealand.   This exhibit should not be missed.

“Alzheimer’s:  Forgetting Piece by  Piece” is an exhibit of 52 extraordinary art quilts about Alzheimer’s disease that is traveling throughout the United States.

The artists, many internationally renowned, offer poignant interpretations of the Alzheimer’s experience in fiber.  Themes include imaginings of an existence stripped of memory and learning; gritty illustrations of the anger, frustration, and stress of care-giving; beautiful tributes to loved ones taken by Alzheimer’s; and the anticipation of a future cure.  They are quilts of heartbreak and hope.  Each artist statement is paired with a fact about Alzheimer’s.

A computer CD with photographs of all the quilts in the exhibit narrated by the artists and a 112-page full color book are available for sale at venues hosting the exhibit.  More than 200,000 people have had the opportunity to see these quilts at shows across the United States.

“We are delighted to be able to have this wonderful exhibit at our Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival,” said Barbara Tolleson, member of the Board.  “This is a unique opportunity to help educate the public about this horrible disease and to help raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.  We hope the public will come to our festival and see the exhibit and help us also raise funds to support the Algood Senior Citizen Center.” Read more...
